Opinions are Like…



A fantastic reminder of the importance of letting the truth of who others are be revealed to us instead of placing labels upon them.

Recently I met a friend for breakfast and we were talking over a difficult situation regarding another friend we both have in common. Being a mediator is never easy but it is especially hard when assumptions and judgments are being made without all the information. The more my breakfast companion spoke the more I realized he was misinformed. However, when I attempted to help him see the situation from a different point of view he began justifying his bias instead of being willing to reconsider his opinion. I realized his mind was closed and our meeting was solely for the purpose of him defending his position. I politely listened and not much meditation resulted.
